Is OA for You? Fifteen Questions
Only you can decide whether you are a compulsive eater. Many of us answered "yes" to three or more of these questions before finding recovery in OA:
Do I eat when I’m not hungry?
Do I go on eating binges for no apparent reason?
Do I have feelings of guilt, remorse, or shame after eating?
Do I give too much time and thought to food?
Do I plan secret binges ahead of time?
Do I eat sensibly in front of others and make up for it when I’m alone?
Is my eating affecting my health or the way I live my life?
Do I try to control my weight by vomiting, using laxatives, starvation, or excessive exercise?

Do I eat to escape from worries or trouble?
Has my doctor ever treated me for weight problems?
Does my food obsession make me or others unhappy?
Do I use food to soothe, reward, or celebrate?
Have I failed repeatedly to control my eating through diets or resolutions?
Do I look forward with pleasure to the moments when I can eat alone?
Do I resent others telling me what or how to eat?
If you answered "yes" to three or more, we encourage you to attend at least six different OA meetings to hear the variety of ways recovery is lived before deciding if this program is for you.
