About OA
Tools of Recovery
In working the Twelve Steps, we find practical help in the nine Tools of Recovery:
A Plan of Eating: Helps us abstain from compulsive eating and gives us a daily guide to nourish our bodies.
Sponsorship: Working with an abstinent member who guides us through the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.
Meetings: Coming together to share our experience, strength, and hope and support one another in recovery.
Telephone: Daily communication with other members to share our recovery and counteract isolation.
Writing: Putting our thoughts, feelings, and step inventories on paper to gain perspective and clarity.
Literature: Reading OA-approved books, pamphlets, and Lifeline articles helps us apply the program to everyday life.
Action Plan: Formulating a structured plan of positive, non-food-related daily activities to support our physical, emotional, and spiritual recovery.
Anonymity: Practicing anonymity guarantees that our recovery is private and reminds us of equality within the fellowship.
Service: Giving of ourselves to meetings, committees, and fellows keeps us abstinent and carries the message to those who still suffer.
