About OA
What is Overeaters Anonymous?
Overeaters Anonymous is a fellowship of individuals who, through shared experience, strength, and hope, are recovering from compulsive eating. We welcome everyone who wants to stop eating compulsively.
Are there any membership fees?
There are no dues or fees for membership. We are self-supporting through our own contributions, following the tradition of being fully self-sufficient while keeping recovery accessible to all.
Is OA a religious program?
No. OA is a spiritual program, not a religious one. It is based on ethical principles and is open to people of all faiths or none at all. Members are free to define their own concept of a Higher Power.
What happens at an OA meeting?
A typical meeting involves members sharing their stories of recovery, reading OA literature, and studying the Twelve Steps. It is a safe, confidential space where we find support and understanding.
Is OA only for the overweight?
OA is not based on weight. It is for anyone who has a desire to stop eating compulsively. Our members include people of all sizes, from those who are underweight to those who are morbidly obese.
